Comments: Stupid question time

In the NBA, unlike college, you get the option of taking the ball at halfcourt after a timeout. It's a bullshit rule designed to increase these buzzer beaters.

Granted my team just got their collective ass nailed to a wall by that rule. But even before Thursday night, I've been opposed to the rule, because it does cheapen things. Which is more magical? Fisher's, rule-aided, shot Thursday night, or laetner's catch and toss off a 3/4 court pass in '92? Do you think people will still be referencing Fisher's shot in 12 years? I know we'll still be talking about Laetner's shot.

The other bullshit part is the NBA says that you can only tip the ball if there's .3 sec or less on the clock, but if there's .4 you have to catch and shoot. I guess you have to draw the line somewhere, but that seems pretty arbitrary to me.

I may sound bitter because I think the Spurs season ended Thursday night, but I've always had issues with those two rules. And it just so happens that my team just lost to their biggest rival because of those rules. I don't know if that's irony or coincidence. But I do know it's damn frustrating.

Even if you're not an NBA fan it will be interesting to see how the Spurs respond tonight. They have more guts than I give them credit for if they end up winning this series.
