Only Roger Angell writes better (when he finally gets around to it) about baseball than Tom Boswell. Tony Kornheiser? Can't think of a funnier sports writer. His ablilty to connect seemingly disconnected pieces is a marvel to read. Bill Lyons? Thank God he's retiring. His tendancy for maudlin is matched only by his ability of resurrecting cliche-ish expressions. The Inqy has been going downhill for a while now. I'm not suggesting that his retiring will allow his current stablemates to come to the forefront. Sheridan's more boring than Lyons. Only Mr. Stephen A. Smith is left with the appropriate barbs and insights. And you know, he won't stay much longer.
